4A real surprise!
By Shane M. Cooke
I was all set to buy a mid-range acoustic bass in the $400-600 range because I thought I'd have to spend at least that much to get the projection required to cut through in an unplugged jam situation. I was shocked when this Ibanez bested the expensive models in this regard. While more refined visually and in terms of tone, the higher end models were just too quite when unamped. But the Ibanez, well, it's pretty loud. This is probably due to it's large, deep body. But it also has a rich resonance with minimal buzzing or rattling that often plagues cheap acoustic basses. It sounds really good up and down the neck with no dead frets. Also, it's built like a tank so I don't have to worry too much about damage under normal conditions. Sure, the frets could use some additional dressing (some sharp edges), which is typical in this price range, and I plan to take care of that myself. The action could probably be lowered a touch, but I don't think I'm going to bother. Other than that, the neck is straight, the electronics are above adequate and it's simply pleasing to the eye. A great instrument that won't break the bank. If you want something that stands a chance against your buddy's six string and your other buddy's trap kit without dragging out an amp, here you go.

5Exceeds Expectation
By CarolynSiouxHart
I was originally looking for a simple, inexpensive acoustic-only bass to practice with. I have an Ibanez SR500 and am very happy with it, so I decided to go with another Ibanez. The AEB5E exceeds my expectations, because it has a warm deep tone with nice resonance that you would expect from a more expensive instrument. I had forgotten that it had the option to plug in, so that was a fun 'surprise'. Sounds great plugged into my (pawn shop) Ibanez bass amp! The Ibanez instruments just feel good/right in my hands - and that's super important, too. I would recommend this acoustic/electric bass to anyone looking to receive the most bang for their buck - just can't go wrong with an Ibanez, in my opinion. I'm a very happy girl today!
